Acceptable Use Policy

This Acceptable Use Policy ('AUP') applies to all customers of HostEngine. We keep it short, plainly worded, and we enforce it consistently. Breach can result in suspension or termination.

Section 01

Guiding principle

Use HostEngine to build, host and operate legitimate applications. Don't use it to harm other people, hurt our network, or break the law. When in doubt, ask abuse@hostengine.com.

Section 02

Prohibited content

You may not host, transmit, or facilitate content that is illegal, infringes another party's rights, depicts the sexual abuse of minors (CSAM), promotes violence against people based on protected characteristics, or facilitates human trafficking.

You also may not host content that is grossly deceptive (phishing kits, identity-theft scams) or that violates the export controls of the United States, the European Union or other applicable jurisdictions.

Section 03

Network abuse

You may not use the Service to send unsolicited bulk traffic, perform port scans on networks you don't own, originate denial-of-service attacks, or engage in reflection or amplification attacks of any kind.

Outbound traffic must conform to BCP 38 (anti-spoofing). We monitor for traffic anomalies and reserve the right to throttle or null-route traffic that threatens platform stability.

Section 04

Security & vulnerability

Vulnerability research is welcome under our published Responsible Disclosure Policy. You may not run unauthorized security testing against systems you don't own, even when they are hosted on HostEngine.

You must keep your own deployed software reasonably patched. We may quarantine instances that are clearly compromised (e.g. participating in a botnet) until you can clean them up.

Section 05

Email & messaging

Sending of bulk email (whether transactional, marketing or otherwise) requires opted-in recipient lists, a working unsubscribe link, and conformance with applicable laws (CAN-SPAM, GDPR, CASL, etc.). We are aggressive about pulling SMTP privileges from accounts that generate complaints.

Section 06

Cryptocurrency mining

Cryptocurrency mining is prohibited on Cloud VPS, Forex VPS, and managed hosting tiers because of the disproportionate noise and power-cost externalities. It is permitted on Dedicated Servers and dedicated GPU plans where stated.

Section 07

High-risk uses

The Service is not designed or warranted for use in life-critical systems (medical implants, nuclear control, air-traffic control, autonomous weapons). If you operate such a system, contact us first so we can assess whether HostEngine is an appropriate venue.

Section 08

Reporting violations

To report abuse or content that violates this AUP, email abuse@hostengine.com. We staff the inbox 24/7. For DMCA / EU Digital Services Act notices please use the structured form at hostengine.com/legal/notice.

Section 09

Consequences of breach

Depending on severity, response can include: a written warning, a quarantine of the offending workload, suspension of the account, termination of the account, or referral to law enforcement. We always notify the account owner before any irreversible action where it is safe to do so.

Where suspension or termination is required for trust-and-safety reasons, fees paid in advance are non-refundable.
